The shows and movies Netflix will download will be based on the user’s personal tastes, watch history and recommendations. Activating the feature means the user won’t have to rely on an internet connection to consume Netflix content. 'Downloads For You' is meant to ensure that there's always something available to watch when there's no internet connection available, with users able to discover new content while offline.
Netflix has announced a new “Downloads for You” feature for its iOS and Android applications. The company says that this feature will automatically download recommended TV shows or movies to your device “based on your tastes,” and it’s thankfully completely opt-in.
The feature is rolling out today on Android and will begin testing on iOS soon.
With a MacBook, if you do not see Netflix on your TV screen, go to System Preferences and choose Display. Select the Arrangement tab and then select the Mirror Displays checkbox. If you see Netflix images on your TV, but no sound is coming from the TV, you likely must adjust your laptop's sound settings to specify that you want to use external. It should be noted that Netflix only allows two devices to download from a single account simultaneously on its standard plan. Removing devices from Netflix allows you to begin downloading on new. The company touts this feature as an expansion of its Smart Downloads feature, which it introduced three years ago as a way to automatically download the next episode of a TV show you’re watching. “Downloads for You” takes this to the next level.

- Go to the Downloads tab and toggle on Downloads For You.
- Choose the amount of content you want downloaded to your device (1GB, 3GB, or 5GB) and click Turn On. The more space you allow, the more recommendations Netflix will download for you.
